Handover Ceremony of Emergency Food Assistance from China to South Sudan was held in Juba

On May 11, 2023, the Handover Ceremony of Emergency Food Assistance from China to South Sudan was held in Juba. H.E. Amb. MA Qiang attended the ceremony together with Hon. Manase Lomole Waya, National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) of South Sudan and Hon. Albino Akol Atak, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disasters Management of South Sudan. They were also on the spot when part of the aided rice was distributed to 400 returnees from Paloch.

In response to the needs of people affected by the floods and Sudan crisis, Chinese government donated 2,396 metric tons of rice to South Sudan. According to the plan, RRC will allocate 65% of rice donation to the 10 States and 3 Administrative Areas; 25% to the Returnees, and 10% to other vulnerable groups such as disabled persons.

Amb. MA Qiang observed that South Sudan is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to the effects of climate change. China has provided emergency food assistance to South Sudan for many years, benefiting more than one million people.

Amb. MA Qiang emphasized that under the Global Development Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, China will strengthen poverty reduction cooperation, actively share agricultural development experiences and technology with Africa, support African countries to improve agricultural production and processing levels, promote the construction of agricultural industrial chains and trade development, and build a community with a shared future for mankind.
