Chinese Embassy Hosts 2023 Chinese New Year Reception

On Jan. 14, the Reception of 2023 Chinese New Year of Rabbit was held in the Chinese Embassy in Juba, which is the first large-scale event held by the Embassy since the outbreak of COVID-19 three years ago. 

H. W. Michael Lado Allah-Jabu, Mayor of Juba City Council, and the executives of the South Sudan China Alumni Association, as well as the representatives of Chinese enterprises, Chinese community, 9th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion, International Civil Servants from China, Chinese Business Association, Overseas Chinese Association, and members of the Chinese Medical Team, attended the Reception at the invitation of Amb. MA Qiang.

In his remarks, Amb. MA pointed out that the past three years were truly extraordinary, for China and for South Sudan. And it has also witnessed South Sudan’s remarkable progress of peace process, recovery and development of economy, and emerging peace dividends.

Amb. MA encouraged all Chinese nationals in South Sudan, as envoys of bilateral friendship, to do business in accordance with law and in good faith, respect local laws and customs, and actively fulfill social responsibilities. He emphasized that the Chinese Embassy will further strengthen communication and cooperation with Juba City Council and people from all sectors in South Sudan to foster a sound environment for Chinese enterprises towards the common goal of development.

Mayor Michael Lado Allah-Jabu extended his best wishes to the People and Government of China on the forthcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. For the importance of relations with China, he also declared the establishment of special unit within Juba City Council to coordinate Chinese Affairs.

The Chinese Peacekeeping Battalion, Chinese Business Association, and Overseas Chinese Association presented cultural performances including Chinese opera, dance, erhu, and choir.
