On October 19, 2020, Ambassador Hua Ning met with the UNICEF South Sudan Representative Dr. Mohamed Ag Ayoya, to exchange views on the cooperation between China and UNICEF in South Sudan.

Dr. Ayoya lauded Chinese Government for its contribution of one million US$ to UNICEF through South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to help improve the nutritional status of South Sudanese children affected by COVID-19 and desert locust. He said that over the years, China has actively provided humanitarian and development assistance to South Sudan, supported the peace process and made important contributions to ease the humanitarian situation. The Chinese Government and UNICEF have maintained long-term friendly cooperation. UNICEF will make every effort to carry out the project to ensure that children in need in South Sudan can get nutritious food in time.

Ambassador Hua said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core and firmly supports and practices multilateralism. H.E. President Xi Jinping announced a series of important measures to support the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs at the high-level meetings of the UN. We are willing to work with the relevant UN agencies to promote the implementation of these measures. Over the years, UNICEF has done a lot to promote the cause of children in developing countries. It is of great exemplary significance for our two sides to conduct the pilot program in South Sudan. We will work closely with UNICEF to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
