Since the diplomatic ties between China and South Sudan, bilateral economic and trade exchanges have been frequent. Due to the reduction of China's oil imports from South Sudan in recent years, the total bilateral trade has shown an overall downward trend. According to China Customs statistics, in 2022, the total bilateral trade between China and South Sudan will be 394 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 10.4%. Among them, China imported 237 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 20.9%, and exported 157 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 11.9%.

Oil revenue is the main source of South Sudan's fiscal revenue, and oil cooperation is a key area of China-South Sudan economic and trade cooperation. In 2022, the 1/2/4 and 3/7 oil areas, which are jointly constructed by CNPC, produced 1.92 million tons and 5.16 million tons respectively.

As of January 2023, there are about 100 Chinese enterprises registered in South Sudan, mainly involved in petroleum, airport, housing construction, road and bridge, communication, retail and other fields. The Juba-Rumbek Road Upgrading Project, South Sudan Central Bank Building Project, South Sudan Central Bank Rumbek Branch Project, MTN and Zain communication network projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises are progressing smoothly, and the cooperation in the field of infrastructure construction has achieved fruitful results .

Chinese-Aided projects are one of the important components of China-South Sudan economic and trade cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Sudan, the China-Aided Kiir Mayardit Women's Hospital, the reconstruction and expansion project of the South Juba Teaching Hospital (Phase I), the upgrading project of Juba International Airport have been completed and put into use. The China-Aided Jur River Bridge Project and the South Sudan Air Traffic Management Project are under construction. China has also provided South Sudan with multiple batches of medical equipment, antimalarial medicine, emergency humanitarian supplies, and human resource training, which have effectively improved South Sudan's infrastructure and people's livelihood and well-being.
